It is so trippy to walk when all the shadows are quickly moving and you gain and lose natural ability to see in the dark. This scene brought all that back and hit me right in the feels, and very stressed getting that feeling back. The first time I saw this I was so stressed with him up and running around while flairs were in the air. Made for a fantastic scene.

I was reading Harry Patch's memoir yesterday, and it really got across that truth about war, that's it's endless boredom punctuated by extreme terror, that it's random and impersonal. He and his machinegun section go into No Man's Land at Paschandaele, taking trench after trench and come out of it without a casualty. Then a month later, as they stop to take a piss behind the lines, a stray bomb kills the whole unit and 19yo Harry is thrown into a ditch, found maybe 30 mins later by a passing stretcher. No-one can tell him what happened to his unit until weeks later; it's just not important to anyone else. I had one of the most cathartic and euphoric experiences I've ever had watching this scene. It completely took my breath away, and reduced me to tears. Thomas Newman is one of the absolute greats of film composition, and he deserves way more recognition than he gets. And Roger Deakins' cinematography is some of the most exquisite I've ever seen. Such a remarkable and powerful film.
